The Garden of the Righteous is a garden existing in the Yad Vashem district in Jerusalem and dedicated to the Righteous among the nations or to Gentiles (non-Jews) who during the Holocaust, risking their lives, gave help and relief to the Jews persecuted by the Nazis.

Inspired by the garden of Yad Vashem, the Italian journalist and writer Gabriele Nissim one of the main founders of Gariwo la bosco dei Giusti (Gardens of the Righteous Worldwide), a non-profit organization based in Milan that carries out the its activity at an international level, he wanted to celebrate with the first Garden of the Righteous of the whole world built on the Monte Stella promontory in Milan people from all over the world who in every time and in every place, have done good by saving human lives, have fought in favor of human rights during the genocides and defended the dignity of the person by refusing to bow to totalitarianism and discrimination between human beings.

Gabriele Nissim's initiative was followed by several cities in Italy and in the world and in a few years several cities have dedicated a garden celebrating different characters, Jews and non-Jews, with an Italian and European law, which defines the criteria for gardens (and its celebrated), d differs from the criteria of that of the "Righteous Among the Nations" of Yad Vashem.
